How do you view people when you first meet them? Do you believe the best or do you assume the worst?
Do you see the potential in your coworkers, employees, friends, family members, etc.? Or do you only see them as they currently are?
These questions are critical to YOUR success. How you view people is how you treat them. If you devalue them in your mind, you will devalue them in your words and actions. If you place a high value on them in your mind you will show them they matter by how you speak and act towards them.
How does this affect your personal success? The reason is because how you treat people ultimately reflects back to you. People don’t forget how you make them feel! Regardless of where we are in life, we need others to help us be successful. If you place high value on people and treat them well, they will want to do the same for you.
I recently heard of an experiment that was done in a school. Two teachers were told they were the top teachers in the school and because of that, they would receive the top students in their classes the next year. Throughout the year, the teachers performed well, the students performed well, and everyone was happy. At the end of the year, the truth was revealed – the two teachers were selected randomly; they were NOT the top two teachers. The students were all low-grade students, a far cry from the top students that they were sold as to the teachers. The point of the experiment was that when you raise the value level of people and give them something to live up to, they perform at a higher level.
Who do you need to value more?
Who do you need to see more potential in?
My mentor John Maxwell says he always tries to place a “10” above everyone’s head when he meets or speaks to them. Because of that, he treats people like they are a “10” and the impact is greater. Try this for the next few days/weeks and see how your attitude towards others is impacted and how they rise to the level of your value for them.
